Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2022: Breakouts from proven computer that called Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s big year

There will be an emotional void in Atlanta when 2022 Opening Day rolls around on Thursday night. The Braves will be playing without veteran leader Freddie Freeman, who is getting set for his first season with the Dodgers. Atlanta was able to replace Freeman with Matt Olson, who hit a career-high 39 home runs for Oakland last season. Olson’s numbers could improve even more in a left-handed friendly ballpark this season, so should he be one of your 2022 Fantasy baseball picks?

Olson is also going to be playing alongside a dangerous lineup that will eventually include Ronald Acuna Jr. and Austin Riley, who are both listed high in 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings. Should you stack your 2022 Fantasy baseball lineup with multiple Atlanta players? Before going on the clock in any last-minute drafts, be sure to see the 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last season, SportsLine’s Projection Model identified several top Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts, including Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

After struggling to realize his middle-of-the-lineup potential his first two seasons, Guerrero had a 2021 Fantasy baseball ADP outside the top 50 and the model predicted he’d outperform that position significantly. The result: Guerrero finished second in AL MVP voting with 48 home runs and 111 RBIs while slashing .311/.401/.601. Anybody who followed its advice and picked up Guerrero in their Fantasy baseball drafts received a top-10 talent for a fourth or fifth-round price.

The SportsLine model is engineered by the same people who powered projections for all three major Fantasy sites. And that same group is sharing its 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets over at SportsLine, helping you find Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts long before your competition. Their cheat sheets, available for leagues on many major sites, are updated multiple times every day.

Any time more MLB news comes out about the updated 2022 MLB schedule, free agency signings or Fantasy baseball injuries, the team at SportsLine updates its projections. Go to SportsLine now to see these proven Fantasy baseball cheat sheets.

Top 2022 Fantasy baseball breakouts

One of the 2022 Fantasy baseball breakouts the model is projecting: Twins starting pitcher Bailey Ober. He made four strong starts in Triple-A last season, finishing with a 2.81 ERA. Ober had some of the best control of any prospect in the Twins’ farm system, which earned him a promotion to the big leagues. Ober maintained his control at the MLB level, walking just five percent of the batters that he faced.

He has an outstanding changeup, ranking inside the top 10 in the majors in called-strike rate with that pitch. Ober was at his best down the stretch of last season, holding batters to a .188 average against his changeup over his final 10 starts. Logan Gilbert and Hunter Greene are being drafted ahead of Ober in most drafts, but SportsLine’s model expects Ober to have a better season.

Another of the 2022 Fantasy baseball breakouts the model is projecting: Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. The former No. 2 pick in the 2019 draft is the top prospect in Kansas City’s organization. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported that Witt Jr. has officially made the Opening Day roster, which makes him one of the prime candidates for a breakout season. The power-hitting infielder smashed 33 home runs in 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A last year.

Witt Jr. is hitting .407 with two home runs during spring training. He joins Detroit first baseman Spencer Torkelson and Cincinnati pitcher Hunter Greene as two top prospects that have made season-opening rosters. SportsLine’s model has identified Witt Jr. as a breakout candidate heading into the season.

How to find proven 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings

SportsLine is also high on a surprising starting pitcher who lands in the top five of its positional rankings. This player is barely going off the board in the top 60 picks, but is projected to outperform starters such as Max Scherzer, Corbin Burnes and Shane Bieber. This pick could be the difference in winning your league or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
